New Year resolutions hold a special resonance for all of us, but more so for vapers because the tradition or practice of setting New Year resolutions goes a long way back. All vapers who have now successfully quit smoking, and switched to vaping, know that the new year marked a difficult period of transition. One out of three smokers make quitting smoking a part of their New Year resolution, but with traditional quitting methods like cold turkey, hardly a few succeed. As a matter of fact, cold turkey, out of all quitting methods, has the lowest success rate – 10%.
But vaping being one of the most successful smoking
cessation tools has the highest success rate, and those who have turned to it,
have also struck off one major goal from their New Year resolution list. Now as
an ex-smoker, here’s how you can set your New Year resolutions that benefit the
vaping community and also help those around you.
Resolution 1: Educate People About the Use of Vaping
Being a vaper, who has successfully quit smoking, and paved
the way for a better lifestyle, it is imperative to help others like you to
start this journey as well.
This doesn’t mean going door to door and rubbing the facts
across other people’s faces. It simply means, separating facts from
fabrication/myths for those around you – people in your circle who smoke, your
smoker acquaintances or friends with health complications, and even those you
know who have recently started smoking or who are trying to quit.
You can counsel them, answer their queries, teach them the
basics, tell them the dos and don'ts, and share relevant information and
authorized blogs written about the effects of vaping from medical
professionals/ health authorities. Even gift them disposable bars as a New Year’s gift to get them
going. Remember that kindness or any act of service is never lost.
Resolution 2: Curb Your Nicotine Intake
If you are a long time vaper, or someone who is adequately
accustomed to vaping, you must bring into consideration the benefits of curbing
your nicotine intake. Vaping is a means to quit smoking, by replacing your
nicotine carrier with a harmless and effective one. Vaping doesn’t entail the
burning of tobacco, nor the production of tar or deadly carcinogens and toxins
that create health complications. But it does entail the use of nicotine, and
your end goal should always be to lower your nicotine intake and vape
nicotine-free e-liquids.
Therefore, if you are an active nicotine salt user who vapes
at 20mg, start small, and lower it to 16, 12, and 10. Similarly, you can use
shortfill e-liquids or 100ml e-liquids that don’t contain nicotine, add your
desired amount of nicotine and gradually try to lower it. Once you’ve built
enough tolerance for nicotine, there will come a point where you won’t feel any
craving for it involuntarily.
Resolution 3: Adopt an Active Lifestyle
Smokers often complain about a drop in their stamina, and
having low levels of energy. But when they switch to vaping, their stamina
considerably increases, and their lung capacity goes back to normal. It is
because of the cessation of all toxins and chemicals that would previously
enter their airways and lungs through smoking. Smoking also affects your active
lifestyle, and light cardio such as climbing the stairs becomes a lot more
difficult than it actually is. When you switch to vaping, one of your goals
should be to reinstate or start an active lifestyle.
This could include running, morning or evening walks, gym,
yoga, any sports of your choice etc. The choice of activity doesn’t matter, nor
the intensity of the burn. It’s the baby steps that matter, and your first step
should be to envision an active lifestyle for yourself and set this goal as a
New Year resolution for yourself.
Resolution 4: Count Your Calories
With the revival of your taste buds, your appetite also
increases, as you switch to vaping. You are able to taste your favourite food
again and tell the difference between each turn of flavour and nuance in
condiments. Vaping generally heals your olfactory system, which becomes
desensitized due to exposure to smoke and tar for a long time by cigarettes.
Although an increase in appetite is a good thing, it must be
regulated, and you must time yourself and be vigilant with your caloric intake.
Because if you are not, you could end up gaining a few pounds by consuming
empty calories. The point is to consume healthy calories and not empty
calories. You can set this as your new year resolution, and regulate your
caloric intake. This will not only facilitate your journey towards a healthier
lifestyle, but will also improve your sleep, and regulate your overall
emotional well-being.
Final Note
These are some of the suggestions that vapers can set as
their New Year resolutions, but that’s not all there is for vapers. The most
important thing to keep in mind is your end goal – why you started vaping,
where you stand, and where you want it to take you. If you know where you stand
in your vaping journey, setting a new year resolution should be easy for you.
We wish good luck to all the vapers and a very happy new year.
